Plants That Don’t Require Plenty of Water

Houseplants are adorable and can add beauty to your home. However, it can be daunting to take care of them if you don’t have much time. Luckily, there are drought-resistant plants that can flourish with very little water.

Outdoor Plants That Don’t Need Plenty of Water

Cactus

If you tend to travel a lot, you need a plant that can tolerate a dry environment. Cacti require water only once a month. Plus, there are different types of cacti to choose from.

Agave

Often mistaken for a pineapple, agave has sharp-point leaves. They don’t need frequent watering since they have deep roots to search for water.

Pregnant Onion

As the name suggests, you should be ready for bulblet babies with this onion. Although not ideal for cooking, these tall and long leaves can be a great addition to plants requiring less water to survive. They, however, need to be placed near a window.

Indoor Plants That Don’t Often Need Water

Sage

Sage has an aromatic smell and can be quite useful for culinary purposes. Besides requiring very little maintenance in terms of water requirements, this plant needs plenty of shade.

Dracaena

Originating from Madagascar, Dracaena plants can survive even when you forget to water them. Plus, it is ideal if you can’t access direct sunlight.

Snake Plant

Snake plants have a sturdy build and striking long leaves. This indoor plant can survive perfectly without frequent watering and light. Although they may need to be watered every 10 days, snake plants will not dry when left dry for up to a month.

Begonia

This is a houseplant with prominent leaves in dark green, burgundy, or light green colors. They are low maintenance and can tolerate the indoors.

Succulents

If you want less-maintenance plants, you can consider succulents. Not only do they do well indoors but they also need watering once weekly when the soil is dry. This is thanks to the water reservoirs in the leaves.
